Recently NJ allowed the statewide school mandate for universal masking to expire. We continue to follow along with any updates from the NJ Health Dept and the CDC regarding camp and school COVID19 policies and procures for 2022. Our policy has evolved to an honor system that we hope provides flexibility to parents and caregivers while relying on self-reporting and regulation with respect to CDC and State recommendations. With respect to masking, we recommend the use of masks at all times indoors in our confined space specially with our younger students however we will leave this to the discretion of parents and caregivers. Our staff will continue to mask during classes and events. We have posted below, for your reference, the latest policy updates from the respective organizations we look to for information on the pandemic. We have reopened and offer daily classes, after school workshops and day camp with increased capacity. Enrollment is currently open and you can register online. If you have any questions please reach out directly to ruth@lunadepapel.us
We will update this page as best we can as soon as we know more about any changes to the guidelines, as well as new policies we will put in place to safeguard our students.
Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to seeing you all again soon.
Best,
Ruth Salas - Owner
COVID-19 Policy
Covid19 Policy 1/13/2022
Below are the key takeaways from the CDC guidance for Covid-19 prevention
Vaccination is the leading public health prevention strategy to end the COVID-19 pandemic. Promoting vaccination can help schools safely return to in-person learning as well as extracurricular activities and sports.
CDC recommends universal indoor masking by all* students (ages 2 years and older), staff, teachers, and visitors to K-12 schools, regardless of vaccination status.
New CDC guidance has reduced the recommended time for isolation and quarantine periods to five days. For details see CDC’s page on Quarantine and Isolation.
In addition to universal indoor masking, CDC recommends schools maintain at least 3 feet of physical distance between students within classrooms to reduce transmission risk. When it is not possible to maintain a physical distance of at least 3 feet, such as when schools cannot fully re-open while maintaining these distances, it is especially important to layer multiple prevention strategies, such as screening testing.
Screening testing, ventilation, handwashing and respiratory etiquette, staying home when sick and getting tested, contact tracing in combination with quarantine and isolation, and cleaning and disinfection are also important layers of prevention to keep schools safe.
Students, teachers, and staff should stay home when they have signs of any infectious illness and be referred to their healthcare provider for testing and care.
NJ Guidelines as of 3/12/2022
While masking continues to be an important part of the layered prevention strategies central to the prevention of SARS-CoV-2 transmission; and CDC continues to recommend universal indoor masking by all students (ages 2 years and older), staff, teachers, and visitors to K-12 schools; circumstances in New Jersey have improved to the point where relaxation of universal masking rules in K-12 schools can generally occur. School administrators should be prepared for the emergence of new variants or substantial waning immunity that could once again lead to greater morbidity, mortality, and disruption, and require returning to additional mitigation measures. As of March 7, 2022, the state mandate requiring in school universal masking will be expired, and individual school districts and school boards will be able to make the determination as to whether universal masking is appropriate for their schools. In making this decision, consultation with the LHD and school district medical personnel is recommended. Many factors may go into this decision, including, but not limited to schools’ ability to maintain physical distancing, ability to regularly screen students (including screening testing), vaccination rates of students and staff, ability to perform effective contact tracing of cases, ability to ensure appropriate exclusion of students and staff with COVID-19 or who have been exposed, and ability to maintain adequate ventilation.
